Our asylum and immigration
system is in chaos. 158,000 people arrive in UK every year (equal
to population of Bournemouth), and this number is rising. And with
only one in five failed asylum seekers leaving the UK, our country
is being taken advantage of.
We need a system
that helps genuine refugees and gives priority to those who want
to come to Britain, work hard and make a positive contribution.
But since Labour
came to power annual immigration has increased from around 50,000
a year to almost 160,000. Britain is now seen as and easy touch
and this is encouraging human traffic gangs to target us.
We need a system
that cannot be exploited, and that helps Britain. Conservatives
would strengthen our asylum and immigration system unlike the Lib
Dems, who would hand these powers over to the EU.
Conservative
proposals include:
A Quota System
Annually revised limit on the number of people entering Britain
(as done in Australia).
Improved
checks
Better border checks to prevent people entering on visas and failing
to leave.
Points System
Entry applications awarded on basis of peoples skills.
New legislation
To allow asylum cases to be decided more swiftly.
