Lib Dems want to build 13,000 more homes in Bournemouth.

This could only be achieved by building on our Greenbelt.

I believe this is wrong and this arbitrary target should be scrapped.

Local Government

1
Stop soaring council taxes
2
Greater say for local people on planning
3
Protect the countryside
4
Encourage affordable housing
5
End war on motorists

Conservatives would like to see decisions on local issues, made locally and without interference by Westminster. For example, Bournemouth Hospital is currently prevented from expanding its car park due to Westminster guidelines.

We would like to see a fairer council tax. From 1992 to 1997 council tax was not an issue. It was a fair system which allowed councils, along with government grants, to run their budgets.

Labour
Since 1997, Labour has used council tax as its biggest stealth tax. To make matters worse, Labour altered the formula for government grants meaning national money for councils has been shifted from the South of England to the North.

Lib Dems
The Lib Dems promote the idea of a 'local income tax' but fail to mention the costs of the army of civil servants who would have to work in the Town Hall in order to run the scheme. They also do not mention that the average working family would be £692 worse off. Nor do the Lib Dems mention the 40 other taxes they would like to see, including a Regional Assembly tax.
